SYNOPSIS SHORT

Two women, two beginnings of pregnancies, one strongly wanted, the other accidental, unintended. In just a few weeks, feelings and emotions intersect, leading the protagonists to share a hospital corridor, a miscarriage on the one hand, a life choice on the other.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Between November and December 2019 I was pregnant, for six weeks, and in the two weeks in which I knew, as much as I had strongly wished to be in that state, I was assailed by conflicting doubts. Daughter, sister, niece, partner, colleague, mother? How many times have I felt myself defined through a relationship, but who am I and in what roles do I wish to place myself? Can I really have more than one? It is a question that has brought me closer to both aspiring mothers and those who do not want to be mothers.

These are the questions that bring to the surface the two different potential motherhoods of Erica and Anna. A few decades apart, the two young women walk down the same corridor, the first through an abortion, the other through a miscarriage. Erica and Anna are closely linked, not only because they are mother and daughter, but also because they represent two of the voices that, on and off, speak in the heads of many. Erica, already a mother for six years, wants to distance herself from this single definition of herself. Anna, on the other hand, seeks it, finds it, loses it.

An investigation into the path that leads a daughter to relive, even if from a different but not entirely opposite point of view, her mother’s experience of life, death and choice.
